The general land surface features that characterize Occidental Mindoro are mountains, rivers, hills, valleys, wide plains and some small fresh water lakes. Located in the heart of Occidental Mindoro are Mt. Iglit and Baco National Park, the home for “Mangyan Tribes”. Also the pride of Occidental Mindoro is the Apo Reef Natural Park, the second largest contiguous coral reef in the world and the largest in the Philippines, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The Major Industry in Occidental Mindoro
Rice Farming
Agriculture propels the economy of Occidental Mindoro and farming is the leading activity also source of seasonal employment in the province.
Fishing and Aqua Farming
Since the province also has a long coastline, fishing in the wild waters of the Mindoro Strait is also a significant economic activity.
Salt Industry and other processed food
Other than salt farming, both wild and cultured some are relatively significant surpluses produced in the province in exportable quantities. Like Mangoes, cashew nuts, cooking bananas (saba) and some other fruits grown in upland orchards are among the other exports of Occidental Mindoro that have traditionally contributed to its income. Peanuts are also grown in some parts of the province, as well as cassava, sweet potatoes, ginger and other minor cultivars.
